Charity of The Year – Greenhouse Sports

Greenhouse Sports is a London-based charity that uses sport to engage young people and improve their life chances. They partner with schools, placing full-time coaches into the school environment to deliver programmes before, during and after school programmes that empower and inspire young people growing up in disadvantage.

Greenhouse Sports believe in the power of sport to:

  • Inspire young people to fulfil their true potential
  • Develop the Social, Thinking, Emotional and Physical (STEP) skills they will need to thrive in later life
  • Break down the barriers that are often associated with growing up in disadvantaged or vulnerable communities

CMC Markets London Office has donated £55,000 to the work of the charity.

Other Charities Supported in The Year

In the London office many charities are supported by colleagues and CMC Markets match £4£ donations made by CMC colleagues.

This year we have sponsored the Employment Fare in London where 200 students prepared by Making The Leap meet potential employers.

Also the Finance Department in London offered a 3 month fixed paid contract to a student of Making The Leap. Interviews took place and the successful applicant then completed a paid work experience of working in the various functions of the Finance Department. Following the 3 month spell at CMC London the person has now secured a full time position in the The City.

CMC London had a vacancy in the Customer Service Department. Making The Leap were asked if they had a suitable applicant who would go through the selection process alongside other applicants from recruitment agencies. Making The Leap’s candidate won without trouble and is now a great member of the team.

This demonstrates a great relationship with a charity who has the same ethos in investing in young talent.

Staff held a charity quiz night supported by CMC London. Almost 100 colleagues took part and raised £2,000 for the great work of Maggie’s helping people live with cancer.

CMC London held its inaugural Summer Charity Party in  June. Suppliers to CMC Markets London were invited to take tables and 10 tables were taken this way. Another 10 tables were taken by CMC London. Charity Casino Tables helped the Summer Charity Party raise £15,000.

Centrepoint will use the donation to help them work with the young homeless people in London and was the final event in The Charity of The Year (2017/18) partnership.

CMC London opened a dedicated First Aid Room as part of the commitment to support colleagues in the workplace.

This is the social side of the London Office. The CSR function facilitates events for London colleagues and has organised professionally run Quiz events and the Christmas party. The J P Morgan Corporate Challenge Run also features in the social calendar.
